Pinewood derby season is coming...

Post by comds »

First multipart 3d print of my own design. 1/4 inch dowel rod peice of "wood" to hold true to it's roots. And needs a lead weight that I will cast on the circular platter. The front back and wheels all printed. Rostock Max v2, standard settings.

My biggest issue seem to be the first layer being squashed. I am pretty sure I am zeroing the Z correctly (does anyone know how to make 0.1mm adjustments to the z relitive to the current zero?) But I still seem to get a pretty heavy "elephant foot" and what appears to be over extrusion on the first layer. And it takes a few layers to absorb the excess plastic into the infill areas. But even then the parts turned out amazing well. The wheels are 2mm rims and tires... look really good functionally wise. Next to make the master, and mold of the lead weight and cast it. Then have to set up the track and test it. :)

Respectfully,
Daniel Shaw

Are you going to sit on that? Hard to judge the scale...

This is something you might want to get the local Boy Scout troop involved in. I suspect they'd go nuts for the idea. :)

There is a huge push in the BSA concerning STEM right now. 3D printing falls right in line for this.
