Knocked up a cheap laser stop system for my Max V2.
At least I can go to bed and not worry that I will wake to a huge ball of ABS string

Short Youtube video explains it best...

Can you give us more info and if possible the details such as part sources, stl files, etc.
That is a neat system and deserves to be a possible mod.

That is indeed a nice mod.

I will have to sketch out the circuit diagram then.
The laser is a cheap (£1.29) red laser module off Ebay. The Picaxe 08m2 chip has a simple program loaded that simply modulates the laser with a simple code that the IR receivers read.
This stops false triggering whatever the ambient light.

Components are probably £15-£20 tops I would think. Most expensive bit was the IR leds on the receiver.

The cost sounds great, all we need is how to program the Picaxe 08m2 and what firmware to put on it along with a
wiring diagram and the STL files for the plastic holders. I think is really cool and should be on every printer. Perhaps
you should sell them as kits.

Well in theory I suppose I could simply pre-program the 08m2 chips (which are something like £2 each) and post them out to those that wanted one.
I will have to sit for an evening and sort out a 'pack'
