Hi,
While I very much appreciate the wiring info on the Rostock Max wiki on Reprap, I seem to remain confused on the motor wire attachment.
The wiki says the motors "are wired to the stepper in the RED-BLUE-GREEN-BLACK orientation". In the photo, the extended wires are all black so I can't verify which goes where, and the board is upside down, which is how it's mounted on the machine. The RAMBo reprap page indicates (from left to right w/the board right side up) Red Green Yellow Blue. I attached a photo illustrating my confusion (see conflicting color assignments at top right of image; I substituted white for black so it would show up better).
Can someone please post the wire order from left to right with board right-side up (i.e. motor connectors along the bottom) - using the wire colors that come with the motors (Red Blue Green Black)?
Also, if I want to be able to temporarily remove the extruder & spool support arm, I'd want to be able to detach the extruder motor wires and also the wires to the hot end. So I'm thinking about adding a pluggable connector (like the power supply connectors) between the board and the extruder & spool support arm. Anyone have a better idea?
Thanks!
Barnett

Re: motor wiring
Hey bud. Your colors labeled rostock max are correct. the ones from the rambo wiki are incorrect because our motors have different color wires.
Re: motor wiring
Hey ... almost five months later I have the same question as I had before. The new stepper motor seemecnc sent me has different colored wires than I had before. These colors match the RAMBo ones in the diagram I posted above: blue yellow green red. Geneb's manual still has the old wires: red blue green black.
I'm guessing I should follow the other wiring pattern as posted on the RAMBo reprap page, matching my colors to what it says?
thanks!!

Followe the plug wiring method in the pdf manual. I believe it's red butts get beaten (red, blue, green, black) the number one pin id marked on the plug with a little arrow. The plug only connects to the board one way.barnett wrote:Hey ... almost five months later I have the same question as I had before. Please do a board search before posting your question, many have been answered with very time consuming detail already.

Since there is only one wire color seperating the two, yeah I think hooking up this way swapping black for yellow is perfectly safe. If not it's not the end of the world your motor will either spin in reverse or make a humming noise. Re: motor wiring
I would except the wires on the motor aren't red blue green black ... they are red green yellow blue. I could treat the yellow as if it were black, but I'm not sure that will work. But it's good to know I won't fry anything.... thx.

Re: motor wiring
You can either measure the coils for impedance and figure out which pairs make up the coils, or you can (without anything attached) touch two wires together and try spinning the motor. If you've connected two wires from the same coil, there will be considerable resistance spinning the shaft.
After that, it's not a big deal to flip its direction after a test run.

Re: motor wiring
FYI: here's what worked with the new stepper motor I got from seemecnc. It matches the info on the RAMBo reprap wiki page.
old wire = new wire
black = blue
green = yellow
blue = green
red = red
old wire = new wire
black = blue
green = yellow
blue = green
red = red
