Question.

What are the odds of being able to resume a print a day later? I was a dumb ass and started a print without looking at the spool. 12 hours into a 16 hour print and I only have a dozen loops left on the spool. I paused in the middle of an infill area, figured if it goofs in the infill it's not a big deal.

Of you paused it you should be able to change spools and resume no problem, just need to keep everything at temp for the duration.

Yea, that ain't happening! Won't be able to pick up more filament till tomorrow!

if you use Simplify 3D you could use the "Start At" function, haven't tried it myself so don't know the particulars, just know the option is there.

just for the future, something I started doing is weighing my spools when they are full and anything over 1Kilo I deem "Spool Weight" then before I start a big print I weigh the remaining spool of filament and make sure I have the estimated amount to be used on the spool. Since I started doing that I haven't run out on a print.

This may be a good time to ask this question: Do all slicers provide the estimated weight of the filament for the articles to be printed?
The two that I use do provide it and I am curious about the rest.

Mattercontrol gives an estimated weight. Guess I need to get a scale! Probably would have been alright, but Windows decided to do a reboot at noon for updates. :roll: Three hours into the print. That's turned off now. Thought I had already did that, it's Windows 10, so who knows, an update may have turned it back on.

I've been able to resume prints that ran out of filament by cleaning the top surface (get rid of strings and poorly extruded junk) and then measuring the height of the print on the print bed. I then bottom clip that amount and use the same dimension for a Z offset. It has helped me to preheat the bed for a while so the print warms up. I had to wait more than 1 day the last time and the print came out good enough to use but I wouldn't rely on it being as strong as a print that was completed without interruption.

The first time this happened there was only one layer until completion. And yes, I am a little ashamed that this has happened more than once.

Yikes..Windows 10....RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY! I would highly recommend finding some of the YouTube videos on disabling all the "spy ware" included in the OS and on how to better control Updates, because out of the box it is a crap shoot!


On the question of do all slicers show the predicted weight of filament used...I can't speak for all because I haven't used them all but I know Matter Control, Simplify3D, Cura, Slic3r, and Kisslicer all do and they all tend to over estimate which is a good thing...leaves some wiggle room.

Uhh, I'm a network engineer, and have been for about 20 years. Think I have Win10 handled. ;) I'll eventually build up a Debian laptop to run the show, but for now I'm using the gaming desktop.

so long as the print is still stuck to the bed, s3d handles this well. just measure the height of the print... or use its own features to figure out what layer to start at.. then adjust your "process" to adjust start height.

Still had mattercontrol paused. Fused the old to the new spool, had about 8 turns on the old spool left. I shut off the extruder heat and bed heat, so while I was fusing the filament, I had mattercontrol preheating the bed and the extruder, just hit resume, we'll see how it goes!

Looks like there's a slight layer shift, probably because the parts cooled. If they are stuck, I'm cool with that!

Woot! Seemed to have turned out fine! Though I think I have a dead spot on the heat plate. Couple prints have curled up in the same exact spot now. Nothing bad, but I'll have to ream out one of the bolt holes in one of the parts.

They look great to me! Good job!
Thanks! Watched it for 10 minutes or so while the fused ends made their way to the extruder. Was a little worried it would stick in the tube, but worked out fine.

I think I'm just going to keep throwing new stuff in this thread.

Is this normal? Have 833 meters of filament through my Max so far. This is happening on at least one bearing on each tower, doesn't matter if it's one of the static bearings, or one of the spring loaded ones. Couple of them have more than one bearing doing it.

Your manual mentions somewhere about removing the excess plastic from the sides of the wheels before using.
In the video it looks like that step was missed.

The excess mold flashing looks nothing like what he's seeing there.
[edit: It's not actually mold flashing, but left over material that the lathe didn't catch due to how thin it is.]

that's definitely what it looked like to me, once I knew it wasn't grease, but I figured I'd let experts figure it out, rather than potentially saying something off base

Nope, I did that. It's only doing it on the wheels that get side loaded, and only on the loaded sides. So say, the Z axis, which is what the video shows, on the front of the upper wheel, and the rear of the lower wheel. The plastic is being pushed out by friction.

This is certainly a case for tech support at SeeMeCNC. These are rather new and I don't think anyone on this forum can determine what would be causing that.
Could you send an email to them along with the picture so that they can see this. I do hope that this is not going to become a wide spread problem.

Sent an email. JJ said he's never seen it happen before either. Neither of us thinks it's too serious, but if it starts to get worse, or starts degrading prints, they'll replace them.
