Hi!

I'd like to show you my latest project:

Custom 3D Printed High Heels for my wife!

At the beginning I tried to design the high heels from scratch, but figured out fast, that it is quite complicate to model such a complex 3D-shape like a shoe, without any template.

So I took an old good fitting high heel...:

...ripped it apart and added some marks:

This helped 123D Catch to make a 3D model out of 52 pictures:

I then refined the data with Meshmaker...:

...and imported it into Solidworks:

This helped a lot to model the high heel. Anyway it took a while to find a good looking and sturdy design without the need of lots of support material:

I sliced with KISSlicer...:

...and exported with Repetier-Host

To check the printability and the design I printed a 1:2 version first...:

...and after some improvements finally the finished high heels!:

It took approximately 9 hours and 64m of ABS filament per shoe on my Rostock MAX.
I used 0.25mm layer thickness and 50% infill.

...and an animated GIF:

The straps are connected inside the plastic with Velcro, so they are fully adjustable.

Kind regards,
MK

Wow fantastic. Love how well it fits the shape of her foot. Is that heel strong enough?

That would be my main concern... And is the shoe flexible enough to be comfortable ?

Thank you for sharing. It is not a tutorial, but almost. :)

Does it prevent your wife from buying shoes, though ?
Does it make her more interrested in 3D printing ? Does she better comprehend the time you spend with your printer ?
Which wedding anniversary is it that plastic is offered ?

Those look awesome.

I was wanting to print a shoe like this. I downloaded a few models from thingiverse but never quite got to printing it. Your creation looks much much better in my opinion.

What size are the shoes? And would you mind sharing the stl's?

I have a feeling you're going to be contacted by fashion magazines in the near future. Get ready for a media frenzy!

Oh, and also, put some rounded corners on your heel support things, those look fragile in printed ABS!

I did a 3D Hubs job for a local guy who was making heels. It turned out great (although he rated my print quality at 4/5 with no explanation). I hesitate to post a picture due to IP, but there's definitely a future in 3D printed fashion.

Keep up the good work!

He may have rated FDM 3d printing technology. :)

You were able to import that large of a mesh into SolidWorks? impressive. HOW?

Hello!

Sorry for my late feedback - I was the whole week on a business trip.

Thanks for your comments!

I try to answer you questions:

Real life testing is still open, but I hope for the best :)
I'll give you an update, when I got the test results.
enggmaug wrote:And is the shoe flexible enough to be comfortable ?
High heels are usually not flexible at all.
enggmaug wrote:Does it prevent your wife from buying shoes, though ?
Probably not :(
enggmaug wrote:Does it make her more interrested in 3D printing ? Does she better comprehend the time you spend with your printer ?
This was my original plan ;)
teoman wrote:What size are the shoes? And would you mind sharing the stl's?
They are size 36. I discussed about that, but my wife wants to be the only one in the world...sorry.

Drag&Drop ;)
It was really no issue. The scanned STL is 23MB.
