I have done a bunch of thread searches, and have not been able to find an answer.
I just did my first Autotune in MatterControl. I got the Autotune Failed error. So, per the Max V2 User's Guide, I changed the EXTR.1 PID drive max from 205 to 128, let cool to room temp, and re-ran. I got the same error again.
I have seen threads where folks have changed EXTR.1 PID max value (versus drive max, like the user manual suggests)... but not sure what exactly that setting does...
suggestions?
Thanks,
David

Re: Autotune Failed! Temp too high
More research and experimenting led to this...
Ultimately I ended up putting the PID drive max value back to the default 205.
I then set the PID max value to 130 since I was overshooting by at least 20 degrees. With that, I ran M303 which would ramp the temp to 150C. That ended up auto tuning. I made my eeprom changes, returned PID MAX Value back to 230 (its original value) and ran it again to fine tune. Entered those eeprom changes and then ran M303 S200, which provided final values... saved to the eeprom, and all is well.
I completed my first print (PEEK fan shroud) and it came out beautiful. Temps held very steady. Very nice surface finish.
Looking forward to putting this machine to use.....

Re: Autotune Failed! Temp too high
would you mind sharing your EEPROM settings as you had it after you ran m303 s200(if you still have them)? I am having the same problem and followed your "system" but I can't get my PID MAX setting back to to 230 without it failing on overheat. I got as far as upping my PID MAX to 200 and ran m303 at 150 but the temp got to 169.4 (nearly failing) and running it with the PID MAX @ 230 results in the temp shooting past 150 to 174.
I have slightly different EEPROM values from that run at 200 so maybe i just have the keep upping the PID MAX a few degrees at a time and tweaking the EEPROM incrementally until i get it back to the original setting.

Re: Autotune Failed! Temp too high
Looks like I was being too cautious. Pushing the settings back up to the ones recommended in the manual worked fine after I got my initial autotune by following your procedure. Thanks!
