Hello everyone,
I just received my kit a couple days ago and am excited to start the build. I have been involved with 3d printing for about 1 year now -- I started with a Da Vinci 2.0 Duo, which I will be selling off. I selected the Rostock Max V2 for larger build volume but most of all the print quality, as reported in Make Magazine's review. I also like the notion that the xyz mechanism could potentially be adapted to engraving, pen plotting, PCB etching, etc. in the future; and the fact that the manufacturer seems to be continuously updating/upgrading and making those changes available to existing installed base. Oh yeah - and supporting a USA company is cool too for a change.

I will be building this as-is out of box for now and will probably add dampers and other enhancements after I gain a comfort level with the system. I've read the build guide twice and am going back for a 3rd reading before I start the build in order to understand every step in advance so I don't fumble.

I look forward to collaborating on this forum.

You can't use it for engraving. There's not enough rigidity in the system to handle the side-load. NO standard delta-configuration printer can be used as an engraver unless it was designed to be a delta engraver in the first place.

You can run pens (it makes a great spirograph!) and lasers (WEAR EYE PROTECTION!!!!), but not rotary tools.

Your purchase of the Rostock Max V2 is great and we will be looking for more info on it, perhaps some pictures of the build?

Sadly, my kit is still waiting to be built... I did do the "gluing of the hotend ceremony" yesterday to kick things off. Hoping to dive in and get this thing built soon!

Question: Does the burnt wood smell eventually go away on its own? I'm not planning on doing any paint or sealant work, but I know that my significant other will complain about the burnt odor if it lingers forever... Should I strongly consider sealing the cut edges of the wood for that reason? Will I regret it if I don't seal?

I stopped noticing the odor after around 4 weeks. Might have been nose blind, or the fumes from various other stuff in the shop (have a laser cutter of our own, for that matter) Didn't seal or paint mine, which I slightly regret, because the paint looks cool. But functionally, so long as the environment is fairly stable, it doesn't matter much. If you have large humidity swings, sealing might be a good idea though.

If you lightly sand the edges and apply some sealing primer such as Bin or another brand that contains shellac followed up by the color of your your choice
you will no longer smell the edges and you can jazz up the look of the printer.

After the build was complete I really haven't noticed the smell anymore. I think most of the odor was coming from the charred paper/tape that covered the part sheets.
