I've really just begun printing (less than 2 days on the machine) and am now trying PLA. A couple of times the filament has "jammed" necessitating some minor dis-assembly to free the filament.
The extruder stepper motor is VERY hot. I believe it is partially melting the PLA in the EZ-struder and causing it to deform/stick. Is this normal? I presume not. Theories as to what is going on are most welcome.

Re: Extruder Motor Hot
Make sure you know what brand your stepper motors are. This happened to me and it actually says the fix for it in the manual. Kysan AND Automation Technology stepper motors need to have a small tweak in the firmware.
I don't have time to go crop an image with exactly what it says in the USER manual, but I know that it is on the bottom of page 12 (the manual version that I am using is Version: 1.15, published November 17th 2015)
I hope this helps!
Also, to find what brand your stepper motors are just look at the back of one of them and read the label
(note it's Kysan AND Automation Technology motors that need this change in the firmware)

Re: Extruder Motor Hot
Having same issue here (glad I searched instead of posting a new topic) - servo motor is quite hot to the touch and thought there must be a setting for the current. Mostly works but a few filament types, notably wood PLA, will not finish a big print without - I guess - squeezing and buckling from the heat on the capstan and curling around in the extruder.
Will check out the suggested solution above and report results.

Re: Extruder Motor Hot
Ok, adjusted down the parameters for Automation Tech steppers in the arduino code and uploaded. Maybe runs a little cooler but still gets almost too hot to touch.
Anyway in desperation to get the wood PLA print to finish I just cooled it manually with ice in a bucket, holding the cubes to the motor after a half hour run, dripping into a small bucket (being very careful to not drop any water on the work!) and that maybe helped finish.
Will look into mounting some kind of computer CPU cooling fan & thermal grease up there to draw heat off the back.
