Concern with new printer behavior

Hello,
Just recently switched to Repetier 0.92.8. While calibrating the system last night I had a decimal error in one of the values I put into the firmware and the endeffector slammed hard into the bed and stalled. The sound of motors growling ensued as I lunged for the power switch. Fast forward through the boring calibration process and the system is printing fine today but now sometimes after printing the printing head slowly drifts down and would eventually touch the bed or item I just printed if I don't power on the motors. The printer didn't exhibit this behavior prior to the crash. I suspect something less than good has transpired with my belts and/or stepper motors. Is this behavior something that is indicative of belts being loose or damaged?
Thank you,
Patrick
