Is there any issues with high speed printing with that extra mass on the carriages? Just wondering since I know that's reason for the extruder being mounded stationary with the Bowden tube, of course I imagine this would have significantly less effect on it than mounted direct onto the effector platform, but curious none the less cause this does seem like a great idea, especially for flexible filaments.

The point is low moving mass, and since most of the time you aren't moving the carriages vertically that much the mass being thrown around is still minimal.

I've been printing at 100mm/s lately (which is approaching the limit for my .4mm nozzle). No ill effects to report.

Shizuma, like most things in life, it's a tradeoff. Low mass is good, long Bowden tubes with hysteresis and slop is not good. One is a trade off against the other.

That's good to know, I often print at 90mm/s with ABS so that's why I was curious, I would like to get into printing some flexible materials as well though so this mod would definitely be nice for that.

Looks Orion compatible, just shorten the elastic and bowden tube.

Yep, the Orion uses the same EZStruder and carriage mounts, so these would work on either model.

def reading on your temps means you have a thermistor disconnected,,, most likely the one for the hot end.

It must be shorted then,,,,, I'd check the wiring at the thermistor on the hotend. It takes more abuse then the thermistor on the bed.

I blundered right through this when I first built mine;
I *ASSUMED* that def was probably an abbreviation for "def_ault"

Nope, it means "def_ect".

A reading of 366 for the nozzle and then switches to def? It's not a problem with the bed.

Sounds like others have helped on the default reading.
For the bungees, just print something relatively large, and anytime you see a cord sag with slack, just pull out that little bit. No need to be tight, just remove the slack and it'll work great.

Defect can also mean that you are using the wrong pins in Repetier firmware to read temps.

so ive checked everything and it all looks good except for this, im starting to use simplify
RECEIVED: extruder 0: temp sensor defect
RECEIVED: heated bed: working
RECEIVED: Error:Printer set into dry run mode until restart!

Putting them on the arms brings them closer to the hot end and lets me center the EZ-Struder output relative to the effector as well as I can. Q-U-I-E-T! You have to be sitting next to it to hear anything at all. Retracts are whisper-quiet and skipping, which could be heard through a closed door before, is just a quiet thud.
I like it.
In particular I like that it allows a 3 (or 4) extruder set up - it doesn't "make it all happen", but doesn't preclude it.
How would a very short bowden tube work ?, so short that there is NO bending ?
I'm thinking;
a) take the WEIGHT off with a string straight up through the middle hole that the wiring currently comes through, 90 degrees over a pulley, out to the edge, 90 degrees over another pulley and down to a counter weight.
Maybe even MORE counter weight than the actual extruder, effector and hot end weight ??
b) keep it from flopping side to side with very light bungies tied to the arms at ...whatever position keeps them about horizontal.
Brian DOES do good work, his prices are good, so I might just order from TL (& quit my arm chair design criticizing)

How are you keeping everything homed after a print? The weight is making mine drop to the floor, which is bad with a hot nozzle hitting the printed object.
