I think you should try to fix it by yourself without wasting time. If it is a pinned component then not a problem at all to fix this.
If your troubleshooting will not work then you can also try the another one available locally with the same configuration.

I shipped the dead board back to them and have received a refund. Their explanation of what happened, why, and what they're doing to make sure it doesn't again, is satisfactory to me. I may rejoin the Smoothie project next year, when they have the Smoothieboard 2 out.
