My daughter does not like to pick off the ooze from the nozzle just before our new Rostock Max V3 begins to print. So I saw an opportunity and sketched up a part to hold a small wire brush to automatically clean the nozzle when starting a print.

The g-code to add to your slicer is listed in the description of the thing. The only drawback is that you need to remove the brush after starting a large diameter print. For most smaller prints it can just stay in place.

For such a simple thing, it works quite well and has really cut down on stray filaments interfering with the first layer.

Be careful with your GCode to wipe the nozzle! I've read more than one horror story of someone getting a little over eager on "brush depth" and shorting out their heater or LCD

Oh yes, I see you could short out the heater leads with the metal brush bristles if you lowered the nozzle too much!

Maybe make yourself a little brush out of a block of PTFE.

I was thinking more a refractory ceramic fiber would be a good idea (I should try this on one of the Taz's. That way it's not my printer if it breaks something). Although it would mean that anything but a steel hotend might be abraded faster, and the fibers might detach or do unfun things over time.

Nice idea. Will have to adapt to V2 bed when I get my printer working again...
