So this was born out of desperation when a support tower broke free near the beginning of a print. Not wanting to start all over I looked around and found a scrap that was approximately the same height and taped it to the bed. The print(other than the artifacts) came out great.

Print looks good, I'm glad it turned out. It looks like you could tweak your temp and retraction a little bit to get rid of those stalagmites.

I think it was the THIRD time I started that one over so my pride took over. Its Makergeeks black PLA. printing at 200 with no fan and a 50 degree bed. What would you suggest as far as tweaking?

What retraction amount are you using currently?

Start with 1mm and work your way up until you find the sweet spot. Mine is 4.7mm retraction at 30mm/s. I run an e3dv6 lite hot end, so YMMV.

Thank you for the advice. I have read Mhackney's post and I feel like I'm just starting to understand some of the details of the printer. I think I need to print a new fan shroud or tweak the old one. It kept bumping into the print and either jarring the print loose or the fan would swing out of the way. This is the one I printed http://repables.com/r/171/.

Depending on how your hot end is mounted, that fan shroud might sit too low.

I've tried a number of low profile shrouds and none of them are 'low profile' enough for my hot end, so I'm going to design my own over the weekend. I'll post it here when I'm done and you can try it if you like.

I have a stock hot end with a Rostock max V2. It seems like there is a huge amount of cooling fans out there but none of them are "just right" I'll be happ to try out your design.
